The collective is US. This is a true statement. And one is both inside and outside because we are individual artists, being influenced undoubtedly by one another, yes. But also fighting for the same things, the same resources. AUNTS is beautiful because it provides a horizontal platform. No one moves up or down the power structure. But that means that power structure—focus, influence, potency—can arise and fall spontaneously. Let it go, accept it, reject it. Appreciate it. It is not a rejection of our difference, but an ultimate acceptance that spares us of differentiating. Why do it, when we can be together in our difference? Individuals unite. And so I feel both full and empty. Full by the meaningfulness of being with others; empty of my own volition, swept up by the masses.
